2024 Mazda CX-90 VS Kia Telluride: Which is a Better Choice?
The new Mazda CX-90 is now Mazda’s largest vehicle, replacing the CX-9. It’s bigger than rivals like the Honda Pilot, Hyundai Palisade, and Ford Explorer, but its interior space is smaller than expected. While it has more room than the CX-9, it falls short compared to competitors, offering 10 to 12 cubic feet less space. The third row is mainly suitable for children. On the other hand, the Kia Telluride is a well-rounded SUV with stylish looks and a great price. It has a wide range of standard features, and its top trim level provides a high-end experience comparable to much more expensive SUVs. The Telluride also offers a smooth V-6 engine, a quiet cabin, and confident handling for a refined on-road feel. With a towing capacity of 5500 pounds and a spacious and comfortable cabin, it excels in both practicality and comfort.

Mazda CX-90
Engine, Power & Performance
The engine of the Mazda CX-90 comes with a single turbo and offers two options: one tuned for regular fuel and another for premium fuel. The S model, which is more powerful, generates 340 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 369 pound-feet of torque at 2000 rpm when using premium fuel. It is paired with a new eight-speed automatic transmission developed by Mazda, supported by a 48-volt hybrid system. While the hybrid system doesn’t increase the peak output, it can provide up to 113 lb-ft of torque at low rpm, especially during initial acceleration. Despite these impressive specifications, our tests show that the CX-90 takes 6.3 seconds to reach 60 mph and completes the quarter-mile in 14.7 seconds at 99 mph.
Price & Features
Despite the starting price of $40,970 for the base CX-90, a fully equipped model can reach as high as $61,920. This places it at a higher price point compared to the Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride, with a difference of approximately $8000 and over $7000, respectively. Mazda aims to position its new models in the premium segment, and the fully loaded Premium Plus version of the CX-90 offers an abundance of features and advanced technology. The infotainment system functions smoothly and can be controlled via touch or a rotary controller on the console. However, one particular aspect is the use of toggles to adjust the temperature settings for each side of the front cabin.
Kia Telluride
Engine, Power & Performance
The Telluride boasts a robust naturally aspirated V-6 engine that delivers a powerful output of 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. It comes equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission, which can send power to the front wheels in the standard configuration. For enhanced traction and control, all-wheel drive is available as an optional feature. During testing, the Telluride X-Line accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in an impressive 6.8 seconds.
Price & Features
We highly recommend considering the SX trim. It offers a luxurious experience packed with top-notch features, all at a reasonable price. The SX comes equipped with premium amenities like a 12-way power driver’s seat, sleek black-painted 20-inch rims, a high-quality Harman/Kardon stereo system, front and rear sunroofs, and comfortable second-row captain’s chairs. For an additional $2000, you can opt for all-wheel drive, adding an extra level of security. The starting price for the Telluride is $37,225.
